Some rewarding awards

Since we launched walkit.com in London back in September 2006 we’ve managed to pick up quite a few awards.

We don’t particularly relish entering awards schemes, but when you’re small, and marketing budgets are small (to say the least), winning an award is a great way of building profile.

We’re also really pleased that we’ve managed to win, or be a runner–up, in a whole range of different types of awards.

In the early days we found people’s inability to pigeon–hole us a hindrance. They’d ask, What are you? A health initiative? A green initiative? A transport initiative? A campaigning body?

But now, as the debate moves on, we find walking’s ability to support a wide range of issues tends to work in our favour. Tackling health issues, reducing congestion, tackling poor air quality, reducing carbon emissions, building (or keeping) economic vitality in urban centres, and building community cohesion – walking has a role to play in all of these. And, of course, it can be plain quick, convenient and pleasant. Oh yes, and with fuel at record prices, being free helps too.

Below you’ll find our awards track record, across a range of sectors. But we’re missing a health one. Do drop us a line if you know of one.
