From the blog
From April 28th travellers using Birmingham's New Street Station will see the first internal results of the huge regeneration project there, which is just reaching its halfway stage.
Network Rail have been heavily promoting the changes that will ensue – but the key points we’d like to draw your attention to are that all existing entrances/exits at New Street will be closed and three new entrances will open onto the new concourse.
For those of you can't wait until the end of the month to discover how your journey on foot will need to change to account for the changes to all the entrances, we're proud to announce that walkit.com has developed a Time Machine! …well, not quite, but bear with us.
For the New Street half time switchover we've built on the notifications we provided to alert passengers to Merseytravel's refurbishment of Liverpool Central station last year, and our London 2012 service that allowed visitors to walkit.com to plan walks around London during the Olympics fully taking into account scheduled street closures and openings.
For any journeys in Birmingham planned to start or end at New Street Station we will provide both an alert notifying users of the impending changes (see image above), and the option to preview their route from 28th April onwards. There are some examples shown below.
If you are travelling to or around Birmingham anytime from the end of April onwards why not take advantage of these features to find out how your journeys might be affected. And of course, please spread the word to family, friends and colleagues who may also be visiting Birmingham anytime soon.
Please click the images to view the routes in more detail.
Mailbox to New Street Station
Note from April 28th the best route into New Street Station is via the new entrance on Hill Street. Also, please note that the 'before 28th April' route only takes you to the entrance doors. The 'from 28th April' route takes you to the heart of the new concourse – which is the best average location for accessing your platform.

Note from April 28th this route goes via the new walkway along the back of the Odeon cinema.
New Street Station to Southside (for Chinatown, Hippodrome, Gay Quarter)

Mailbox to Moor Street Station
This is a route that does not take in New Street Station, and there is no easy preview facility on the site. We include it here to show how the changes at New Street will have an impact on walking journeys across the city even if they are not using the station.
