Heart Research UK - Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
Although here at walkit.com, our primary focus is to help you find your way around town, we're also big fans of getting out and about in the countryside for a big challenge, and such a challenge has recently come to our attention. The 'Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge' is the flagship fundraiser for Heart Research UK, and will take place on Saturday 18 June 2011. You can read their press release below.
If you're organising a similar fundraising walking or hiking event, why not add it to our events listings page, or get in touch with us directly, and we'll help and spread the word about what you are doing.

Put Your Best Foot Forward for Heart Research UK
People from across the UK are being urged to dig out those walking boots and sign up for national heart charity, Heart Research UK’s flagship fundraiser – the ‘Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge’ on Saturday 18 June. Now in its fifteenth year, this 25-mile walk not only provides spectacular scenery and gets the heart pumping, it helps raise funds for pioneering research into the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease.
The challenge covers three of the highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales – Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The charity now needs as many people as possible to do one, two or even three peaks to help continue the fight against heart disease.
This year, for the first time, Heart Research UK is introducing a team challenge trophy. We are looking for eager teams of friends, family and colleagues to join in and take part.
Barbara Harpham, National Director of Heart Research UK says: “The walk is an exciting, active, outdoor challenge that everyone can enjoy. It’ll keep you fit and healthy and will help raise money for pioneering research into heart disease.
“Whether you walk alone or with your friends or family you’ll love a great day out in the spectacular Yorkshire Dales, joining hundreds of other walkers.”
Unlike many other organisations, Heart Research UK does not charge an entry fee, it simply asks all walkers to raise as much sponsorship money as possible.
