walkit.com can help with 'Creating Growth, Cutting Carbon'

The Government has today released a white paper entitled “Creating Growth, Cutting Carbon – Making Local Sustainable Transport Happen”. This outlines details of the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (for England): a £560 million funding stream for local authorities to develop green transport initiatives, in order for them to both help create economic growth and reduce carbon emissions.
This fund will mean local authorities will be given greater freedom to plan their own transport projects. Transport Minister Norman Baker believes that such local solutions are able to deliver large gains at a national level.
Local authorities have already been invited to prepare and develop proposals for the £560m fund. The white paper states that bids from local transport authorities will be particularly welcome if they can demonstrate support from, and the involvement of, voluntary and community organisations and the private sector.
We think walkit.com provides a tried and tested, accessible and low-cost service that can help shift people out of cars/taxis (and over-crowded public transport) and encourage them to take more exercise.
Please get in touch if you'd like to discuss launching walkit.com in your area as part of your LSTF bid. You can find out more on our 'Launching in new areas' pages.
