Physical activity, walking and the prevention of falls

Posted 20 December 2010 13:53 by martin

Bristol City Council has an ongoing programme of collating key evidence from peer-reviwed literature in order to strengthen the case for current travel policies and practices.

This week's bulletin presents evidence that the risk of increasing falls among a largely sedentary older population can be reduced through physical activity. Furthermore, as walking is the most readily available physical activity, it can contribute to the prevention of falls through maintaining and increasing leg muscle and bone strength.

You can access the report in full (Number 65), along with Bristol City Council's previous bulletins here.
