Walk and fly

What are you up to this weekend? Do you feel like doing something to stretch your legs, put a glow in your cheeks and make your heart soar?

Dig out your kite!

Summer kites

In nearly every city there’s a great hill you can climb to catch the summer breeze. Whether you love the exhilaration of control, the sight of vibrant shapes and colours against the blue sky… or just looking down at the rooftops of your city, a few hours with your kite will take you sky high (or, if you’re not that great at getting them airborne, at least give you a good laugh!)

And because kites are light and portable, you can usually find room for one in a rucksack with some sarnies, or tuck it under your arm. Take the kids, the dog, or a group of mates, and walk your way to summer heaven.

Here are a few classic sites for city kite-flying. Let us know your favourites!
  • Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath, London
  • Ashton Court, Bristol
  • Calton Hill, Edinburgh
  • Roundhay Park, Leeds
